A Chicago Must-Do With Your Kids
Do you live in the city? You have probably done a lot of the typical children’s activities around town, such as visiting the Field Museum of Natural History, the Chicago Cultural Center, Wrigley Park and so much more. Those are all lots of fun, but you can only do them so many times. You are probably eager to find other things to do with kids in Chicago. Our Tike Hike is exactly what you’ve been looking for!
The tour combines physical activity with actual activities tailor-designed to engage and delight children. Instead of hearing your kids whine, “I’m bored!” listen to them as they giggle their way through the petting zoo. Watch as they grin at the giant Abe Lincoln and clap their hands in delight at the secret garden. This is what we mean when we say our tours engage all the senses — they will have you using your eyes, ears, nose and more to experience every moment of your child’s glee.
Here are a few other reasons you should go on a Tike Hike with us:
- It gets your kids off their electronics: These days, even the youngest kids want to engage with their devices all day long. Get them outside for a natural rush instead.
- It teaches them about the city: You can only relay so much information via books. Getting out into the city and seeing the important sites will leave a lasting impression on your child.
- It encourages them to exercise: This isn’t spin class-level intensity, but your kids will get some good exercise when they take a bike tour. They will easily hit the 60 minutes of movement each day recommended for children.
The fun begins with a meet-and-greet with your fun-loving and enthusiastic tour guide. They will take time to make sure you and your children are fitted with proper equipment, even reserving a few minutes for you to test ride our gear.
Once everyone has a bike and helmet that fits, the guide will discuss how this tour will maximize safety and fun! The adventure sticks to sidewalks and bike paths, so that you and your children can relax and enjoy the views without the stress of traffic.
Once everyone is ready, the group will head north on Chicago’s beautiful Lakefront Trail. You’ll catch a peek of Lake Michigan boaters and jet skiers, as well as the world-famous Navy Pier Ferris Wheel!
The first stop is only a few minutes up the path – Oak Street Beach. Here you’ll see why Chicago has a reputation as one of the country’s greatest beach towns! White sand and clear blue freshwater make for endless summer fun—this is a great place to bring kids back after the tour is done.
Continuing north, the guide will lead you into Lincoln Park. Here, you’ll meet a giant green statue of Abe Lincoln, whose feet can be rubbed for good luck!
Nearby is the Lincoln Park Zoo, one of America’s largest free-admission zoos. The tour will take a short break here to stretch legs or grab snacks. Your guide will watch over bikes and equipment while you and your family explore the animal exhibits. The petting zoo is highly recommended!
On certain tours when we’re making good time, the guide will show you one of our favorite spots in the city: a Lincoln Park secret garden with lily ponds and hard-to-come-by quiet!
After Lincoln Park, the group will head back to the Lakefront Trail to see North Avenue Beach, another amazing sandy swim spot. Kids will love the excitement of this waterfront, including a giant steamboat-shaped snack shack.
It’s just a short roll back down to Bobby’s Headquarters for a kids-only award ceremony and subsequent prizes! After all this, you’ll see why Bobby’s Tike Hike is an undisputed must-do in Chicago with kids!
What To Expect
On busy summer weekends, Oak Street Beach is packed with the blankets and swim gear of up to 300,000 Chicagoans. Pop-up bars, volleyball nets, and easy-access to downtown make this one of Chicago’s finest sandy spots.
The sprawling Lakefront Trail is an 18-mile, paved bike and walking path that straddles the shore of Lake Michigan, and connects the Windy City’s north and south side neighborhoods.
The Lincoln Statue is located in Lincoln Park, adjacent to the Chicago History Museum. It was designed by Augustus St. Gaudens, who used a plaster mold of Lincoln’s actual face to create the statue’s head.
The Kissing Bridge is named such for all of the wedding photos taken with its beautiful skyline backdrop. It is a beautiful place to view Lincoln Park, The John Hancock Center, and the zoo’s camels!
The Lincoln Park Zoo is free for all to enjoy and is home to hundreds of beautiful animals from all over the world including lions, tigers, penguins, reptiles, gorillas, and camels.
Bobby’s Secret Garden, the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool, is one of Chicago’s best kept secret: a peaceful oasis full of lily ponds, natural wildlife, and rare quiet. Time permitting.
North Avenue Beach is one of the Windy City’s most popular public beaches. It features white sand, kayak and jet-ski rentals, bars, restaurants, and the clear, freshwater of the great Lake Michigan.

What Our Customers Are Saying“I was immediately impressed with the care that was taken to match us up with appropriate sized bikes/helmets and explain to us what we would be doing and how to ensure safety along the way. The bike ride along the lake shore was absolutely beautiful and the education and fun facts that were intermixed provided a great balance that all of us enjoyed.”
